A Beginner’s Guide to Living in the Present
Have you ever found yourself thinking about the past or the future? This is where mindfulness comes in! Mindfulness is simply the practice of being aware of the present moment, without judgement. It’s about paying attention to how you feel, what you’re seeing, hearing and smelling right now.
Why is mindfulness important?
- Reduces stress – By focusing on the present, you let go of worries about the past or the future.
- Improves focus – When you’re mindful, you give your full attention to whatever you’re doing.
- Promotes mental health – Mindfulness can help you feel more calm, happy and connected to yourself.
How to practice mindfulness:
- Focus on your breath – Take a deep breath, hold for a second and exhale slowly. Simply focus on the feeling of the breath.
- Pay attention to your surroundings – Look around you and notice what you see, hear or smell. Be present in the moment.
- Body scan – Pay attention to different parts of your body, starting with your toes and moving upward. Notice any tension and relax.
By practicing mindfulness for just a few minutes each day, you can feel more centered and at peace with the present moment.
“Mindfulness isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence.” – A. Bansal
