Unplug & Unwind
We live in a time where screens are all around us — phones, laptops, televisions, tablets. They help us learn, work, shop, and stay connected with others. But when the day turns into night, using too much technology can make our minds feel busy and tired instead of peaceful. That’s why building a tech-light evening routine is a wonderful gift you can give yourself.
Unplugging does not mean throwing away your devices or avoiding them the entire day. It simply means creating a small window of peace where the outside noise does not enter your bedroom or your mind. For many people, nights are the only moment of quiet they have each day. So, let’s make it special.
Technology gives off a bright light called “blue light,” which can confuse our brain. Normally, when the sun sets, our brain prepares the “sleep hormone” that tells us to relax. But when we scroll through social media or keep watching videos late at night, our brain thinks it is still daytime. This leads to late sleeping, tired mornings, and sometimes even mood problems, irritation, and loss of focus.
A gentle evening routine can change all of that. You can start by choosing a time each night when you stop checking your phone. Even 30–60 minutes before bed can make a huge difference. Let your eyes and mind take a break from buzzing digital content.
Use this time to do calming activities. You could read a book, listen to soft music, stretch your body, or write down your thoughts in a journal. Lighting a soft lamp or a candle can also create a cozy feeling in your room. A warm cup of herbal tea can slowly relax your nerves.
Try to keep your bedroom for rest and comfort — not for work or scrolling. If possible, keep your phone away from your bed or turn on “Do Not Disturb.” This helps your brain learn that bedtime means relaxation, not notifications.
Your routine can be simple, low-cost, and personal. It should help you feel peaceful. The more regularly you follow it, the better your sleep becomes. And when you sleep well, you feel more positive, patient, and healthy during the day.
So tonight, take a tiny step. Put your phone away a little earlier. Breathe deeper. Slow down. Your body and mind deserve a calm ending to each day.
